YAS (Youth Adventure Series) – Wilderness Skills

Ages: 6-11

Glacier Institute Staff

This course will begin at Field Camp for a challenging day in learning about the most important part of wilderness survival, communication and cooperation.  You'll learn to stay found by navigating a course through the woods with a map and compass as well as finding survival foods and water, staying warm, and building shelters.  The fun skills you will learn during our day together are vital to any family who enjoys spending time in the wilderness.

Meeting Time: Friday at 9 AM

Meeting Place: Glacier Park Field Camp Meeting Hall.  See campus map.  

What to Bring?

  • Day pack                                                                  
  • WARM clothes
  • Sturdy walking shoes (rain-proof, if possible)          
  • Rain gear                                                                              
  • Extra shoes & change of clothes                                
  • Full water bottle (one quart)             
  • Sack lunch and snacks                                    
  • Paper and pencil

Activity Level:  We will hike less than 2 miles round trip at a leisurely pace, on and off trail through brush and over rocks with an elevation gain and loss of 100 feet.

Our day will end by 3 PM.
