Anthony Nelson, Executive Director

Anthony grew up in southern and central Minnesota and married his wife, Allison, in 2012. With a degree in Wildlife Biology and a desire to work as a Zookeeper, they moved to Colorado Springs. Anthony was eventually hired at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and worked many years as an Animal Keeper, focusing primarily on hippos and penguins. During this time, he truly fell in love with teaching, and gravitated towards any opportunity to inspire action through education.

With two kids, and a third on the way, Anthony made the difficult decision to leave the zoo and move the family to the Flathead Valley in search of a career that would allow his wife to achieve her goal of being a full-time mother. While working for a local building company, he was excited to be asked to join the Glacier Institute Board of Directors. He served on the board for a year before being asked for his resume for the Executive Director position.

Anthony is an avid wearer of suspenders, consumer of baked goods, and amateur rock skipper. He lives in Kalispell with his wife, daughter, two sons, and a coop full of chickens. He is excited to play a role in preserving wild places for future generations to enjoy.
