Soaring Eagle Backcountry Camp

Ages 14-16

June 28th-July 3rd, 2015

This camp promises excitement and adventure while creating memories that will last a lifetime.  We will learn the ins and outs of backpacking, wilderness safety, team building, wilderness travel, camp set-up, cooking, stream-crossing, orienteering, survival skills and more.  This camp is more strenuous and demanding than our other youth adventure science camps.  Campers will leave with a strong understanding of the rigors of backcountry travel and safety, and the experience of a confidence-boosting, friendship-forming mode of human-powered adventure.

Soaring Eagle and Eaglet Backpacking routes

Soaring Eagle:

We are planning on hiking trail 194 between Moose Lake and road 1693.  Included in the trip is an overnight to Elelehum Lake on trail 255.  These trails are north of Big Creek and south of Polebridge, in the Flathead National Forest.  They take participants to 3 high mountain lakes (one is an alpine lake), through fields of wildflowers, through mature forests, and through burned areas along creeks.  This is the same route as last year.  We will be scouting other trails, in order to change up the route and mitigate the heavy snowpack.

Soaring Eaglet:

We hike along the same route, but break the trip up into two backcountry nights and two front-country (car camping) nights.
