The North Fork of the Flathead River
is one of the few designated “Wild and Scenic” rivers of
this country. Starting at the Canadian Border, we’ll follow
this pristine river’s winding course for a weekend of river
ecology and adventure. Rafting downstream, we’ll encounter
a valley of staggering views, abundant wildlife (including
bears, wolves, moose, elk, trout, and bald eagles) and
learn about the legends and lore of the North Fork’s historical
residents. We’ll take short hikes from the riverbanks
to visit some of the interesting features of this river
and its tributaries. By the time we reach our destination,
the remote outpost of Polebridge, you will have a new appreciation
for this incredible river and its complex and important
food web that stretches to Flathead Lake and beyond.
