Full Course Details
Thriving in Glacier’s riparian, meadow,
and old growth habitats are many important medicinal herbs.
This course will focus on identification, medicinal value,
native and historic uses of plants. We will begin by exploring
along the banks of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River,
move into the forests and meadows around Field Camp and
end with an excursion to the Avalanche Creek area to view
powerful plants such as Devil’s Club and “Grandmother”
Cedar used by Native Americans. Harvesting takes place outside of Glacier National Park. If you are also interested
in learning how to harvest and prepare medicinal herbs,
be sure to sign up for Making Wild Herbal Medicines, June
29.
